Heres some work I did that ended up at the Frankfurt Book Fair last October. I'd like to point out though I didn't do the paper mechanics and binding just the illustrations.

The Phoenix And The Carpet
I've been meaning to put some work on my blog just as soon as I could get some original digitized - and then my laptop was stolen! Anyway I've got a new one thanks to my insurance cover so I can add this piece. 'The Phoenix And The Carpet' is a great children's book by Edith Nesbit. It's very much of its time but has some great visuals in it so I picked the book for a prospective cover. It looks as if I'm going to get some work out of it too!!
The past four months have been very eventful. I got an interesting job in August to do some pieces for a pop-up book on shakespeare and then in October I went on an art direction course for a month. Now I'm back I've got cracking on a picture book. I'd really like to put up some samples for that and the pop-up work so watch this space.

Mad March Morning Hare
I always enjoy taking on private commissions, not just because I get paid, but I can also develop my brush and colour techniques. You tend to end up drawing things that you wouldn't normally consider - which can only help in the long run.
The commission itself was to produce a 'Hare in a field.' Simple enough really. I did contemplate a view point underneath the animal, however it might not have been fitting for it's final hanging place.

'A Sea Of Ideas'
Here's something I have been badgered to put up. It's a large illustration that I did for self-branding that incorporates watercolour, drypoint, pencil crayon, pencil and gouche techniques. So far I have used it on postcards (by splitting it into four), business cards, flyers and a flash animation. The concept behind the work is quite loose. It could be seen as celebrating the wildlife and beauty of the North Sea, or as a warning as to what could be endangered with the metaphorical sink plug on the far right. Although if I'm really honest most of it was just an exercise in letting my imagination wander or should it be sail?

Toilet Training
Another piece from the same project as 'The Dark Side Of Tony Bennett.' Again print based but using a technique I discover while playing around with masking fluid and etching plates.
This one is about an amusing article outlining a polite etiquette for visiting the men's toilets. One of the rules I picked up on was never start a conversation with the person stood next to you at the urinal.
This piece was great fun to do!!
